A Writer needs to be Alone and Social

There are days when ideas are flowing all around and there are days when the writer struggles to write a topic sentence.
Being alone helps a writer to find the quality time and being social helps a writer to find a platform to show their work to the world. It is crucial to strictly divide time since social media platforms can turn to be very distracting and take more of your time.
Here are some of the steps that helped me in my writing course and I find great pleasure to share them with you.

Isolate yourself

My journey has taught me to isolate myself while writing. When you’re alone in a locked room it doesn’t really matter if its raining or the sun is bright outside. You sit in your place and pluck the ideas to put them together on your plate. You fit each idea piece by piece and see where it is going.
I prefer a simple room with less variation or a known quiet place. Even if every corner of the room is dark it doesn’t matter. It should be my desk that is bright.
People do prefer to sit in the woods when writing poetry on the beauty of nature but I feel you can picture it all in your head. Then you paint it with your words.
Every writer has his/her favourite place where they can sit for hours thinking and building a story.

Writing a Story

When you’re writing a story you have to choose your characters wisely. You need to understand your characters well before writing. You really need to stand in their place and feel the same way your characters are feeling. You need to play your characters. When you start writing the story you must set your characters free and don’t be bias to any of them. Each time you have to dive in and go through all the emotions your characters are experiencing. There is a time when you have to play God ie. every action has a consequence so you have to be bold enough to stand rigid when something bad happens to any of your characters.
Finally, you should prepare yourself for the end. You should know when is the right time to end the chapter or to end the story.

Empty Mind, Reading Time

There are days when you find no inspiration to write and it feels like all your mind is empty. There is no emotion left in you. That’s the time for you to read.
Read as much you can and feed your mind with breathtaking ideas and amazing stories.
Reading someone else’s articles or poetries or novels help you analyse yourself. It develops the quality to appreciate others work. When you read from the best you start feeling content and you realise there is so much more left to be expressed by you. We know that to be a good writer we must write every day. But it is equally important that we read every time we’re exhausted.
Now you’re a reader and that’s one of the best feelings for a writer.

Being Social

Being social is one of my weaknesses. Whether it is a physical interaction or being active on social media I’m pretty bad at it. Since being alone is so addictive that it creates a barrier around you and you find it really hard to let other people enter it. But without being social you cannot promote your work. Finding followers on social media can be really hard for a person like me. After some days you’ll get used to it and then you can easily find time to check updates. Scrolling through news feed is way more addictive than being alone so you must go through all the stories only in your spare time.
It also helps in building a community of people with same interest. Review their work and receive feedback on yours.
