A Wild Child of the Beaches and Bush

I grew up halfway between two worlds — the quiet suburbia of Sydney, Australia, and the bush and beaches of south-eastern New South Wales — the beautiful Country of Yuin and Ngarigo First Nations…

Photography

If there is one thing I do take an interest in, it is trying to capture color and texture on film, though it’s no longer film. Everything is digital today. No more dark rooms, mixing chemicals and developing film.

I’m old enough to remember those times. I will have to say most of my photos back then were black and white, color developing was a little out of my price range and expertise.

I wish I still had some of those photos, but a lot of my things were burned in a fire many many years ago.

In today’s modern world photography has taken on a new twist. Colors are more vibrant, mistakes are easily corrected. Even mistakes that nature bestowed upon a person. A little digital editing and flaws become flawless.

Maybe it’s just me, but I like the flaws, the innate characteristics that make something unique. It’s my excuse when people ask me if I ever use Photoshop.

Truth be told I wish I did learn how to use Photoshop to photoshop my digital captures. Imagine, back in my early days of photography I don’t thing photoshop was a word. Heh, google wasn’t a word when the information age began, but now it means to look something up on the internet.

Anyway back to photography. The cameras are still basically the same. It has all the same features of the old 35mm cameras except everything is simulated. The software translates the analog settings into ones and zeros and presto you have access to different ISO film.

Back in the analog age, photographers carried multiple cameras. Each camera had different ISO film depending on the lighting and time of day you would choose which camera.

Today we just change the setting, no need for multiple cameras. Just point and click and let the software do the rest.

Photography today is too perfect sometimes. Don’t get me wrong, the colors are brilliant, the lighting is spot on and the texture is exactly how you want it to be.

I really need to learn Photoshop.
