A Note to a Writer

Are you thinking of writing on Medium? Don’t let fear hold you back.

I first heard of Medium a couple of years ago. I wanted to write ever since, but the hesitation kept me from writing. I would scroll through the countless articles published. A notification would pop up on my phone from an author: How I became a writer on Medium. I would wonder how it would be to publish something; even if it wasn’t read. Last year in July, I took the leap.

As a new writer, looking at the abyss of the writing world with an awe, it seems daunting to jump in and press send on a newly written article or story. So many thoughts creep up, and the hesitation builds. To start on an unknown journey is ever paralyzing. But to stop and wonder, all the writers that are now successful had to start somewhere and had the same feelings as I do and you do now. That helps with the fear and lessens the hesitation.

For all the new writers who are hesitating to start writing here on Medium, don’t be afraid to step off the shore of safety and comfort. But instead, grab the metaphorical scuba gear and plunge headfirst into this world of writing. I know I’m ready and I’ll see you beside the giants of this world.
