Death of my Phone and Internet for a Day!

Death of my Phone and Internet (Pexels.com)

Wake up you girl!

Wake up! Please go and check the internet is not working ……… said my father unaware of the fact that I couldn’t sleep the entire night because of my weird dreams.

I woke up with a feeling that something is hitting my head like a baseball. I tried recalling what happened, and that’s when I recalled my teacher continuously calling and texting me for some college work…thankfully in my dream.

I sighed with relief and looked for my phone. I could not find my phone anywhere. And that’s when my sister said to try and look under the bed. I did….

BOOM!

My phone was under the bed lying dead with a broken screen…and suddenly my sister said, (teasing me) we are going to celebrate the death of your phone and the internet today!

Yes! It has been a month since the COVID-19 Pandemic has made us sit at our homes with this lock down going on. And I woke up two biggest shocks of the world today, that is, living without phones and internet.

My day did not start as good as I expected but I kept everything aside and began with my daily household chores. I helped my mother in the kitchen, cooked lunch for everybody. I helped my sister in her assignments…. yes, all of this was happening without looking at my phone. My sister’s words were striking my ears- “death of your phone and internet today.”

But the life without phone and internet is not impossible. Didn’t our grandparents and parents survive without it? And then at the end of the day I sat down and thought about what impact this death of my phone and internet had on me throughout the day.

I am a very introverted person when it comes to being social or connecting to people. Throughout the day, I was busy doing household chores, helping my mother, helping my sister, completing my work.

I realized I was much more connected to real people at my home than the virtual people. I interacted with my family, we had meals together, we were discussing the news, and other things. We played some indoor games together.

Instead of ordering stuff online, I went for grocery shopping keeping safety measures in mind, met a few people and interacted with them.

The Best thing that happened in this lockdown was, opening up my cupboard and finding my old novels and books. I found some really good books in my library, found some memories hidden in those books (dried roses, chocolate wrappers and, a photograph too). I read one of my favorite books and felt nostalgic.

It has been really difficult to maintain health and fitness during this lockdown because the gyms are closed. Till now I would simply watch a few online videos to do some exercise.

But that day when I was experiencing the death of my phone and internet, I tried some yoga lessons by watching them on television. I brisked walked for an hour on my terrace.

Death of my phone and internet for a day was not a bad experience for me, I got to spend some real-time with my family, I tried my hands-on cooking. And I realized how important it is to reduce the dependence on technology and live in a real and personal world.

Can you reduce your dependence on technology and live a real and a personal life?
