Success Begins Before 5am

December 7th, 4:30am. The weather outside is cold and snowing.

As I lay so comfortably in a deep sleep. All covered up in my blankets, warm and thoughtless, without a moments notice I hear that loud, obnoxious sound of the alarm going off. You know that one I am talking about. The cringing sound that makes your ears bleed. All you want to do is grab whatever device is producing that sound and chuck it across the room. But I don’t. I quickly spring to my feet and say to myself, with a excitement, “Lets Go!”. Next, I hit the morning routine of, brush the teeth, gym cloths on and head out the door to Crossfit.

Now, lets look at what just happened. My day literally lives and dies by this instant choice I make as soon as I hear the alarm. The “easy” thing to do is, to go back to sleep nestled in my blankets. But I don’t. I instantly, and I mean instantly, make a choice to get excited to start the day. Who really wants to get awaken by one of the moist annoying sounds in the world at 4:30? Then, head out in 10 degree weather (sometimes colder than that) and put their body through a vigorous routine of exercise. Could you actually sell someone on this plan? Probably not, that’s why success is not easy. Getting up at 4am is not easy. The ones that can and stay committed to doing the things others won’t are more inclined to be successful. This plays such huge psychological role in the mind and gives me a sense of “accomplishment” so early in the morning, it creates a domino effect for me throughout the day. Now, doing this day in and day out creates an undeniable positive habit for the mind and body. As you know or if you don’t, we are all creatures of habit. Whether the habit be good or bad, doesn’t matter in the sense.

I challenge you to do this. Actually two things. One, get up before 5am and two hit the gym. Studies show that exercising in the morning is great for burning off stored fat and is great vitamins for the mind. It purges the mind (specially Crossfit) and like computers and smartphones. The mind needs to be swiped clean of programs running in the background. Success is your obligation!
